  • The first class is Thursday, September 9.
  • Students considering graduate school are strongly encouraged to attend an information session on available scholarships on September 15, 16, or 20 (September 13 or 14 in French). More information is available here.
  • Students with good grades and interested in earning some extra money through tutoring should visit the SFUO (student federation) peer help centre.
  • Sep 21: Assignment 2 was modified shortly after class on Tuesday, September 21. If you happen to have downloaded it before class, you should download the new version.
  • Sep 30: There will be no office hours the week of October 4–8 since the professor will be out of town. However, students may ask questions by email. Class will still take place as usual (taught by another professor).
  • Oct 3: The third homework assignment has been posted. Note that the due date has been changed to Thursday, October 14.
  • Oct 15: There was an error in the solution to Question 6 on Assignment 3. This has now been corrected.
  • Oct 16: There was a typo in the solution to Question 1 on Assignment 2. This has now been corrected.
  • Oct 20: Solutions to the midterm have now been posted on the exams page (in the table of old exams).
  • Oct 22: There will be no office hours on Wednesday, October 27. If you were planning to come to these office hours, you can email the professor to arrange a time to meet on Thursday, October 28.
  • Oct 28: More old exams have been added to the list on the exams page.
  • Oct 29: There will be no office hours on Wednesday, November 3. Instead, extra office hours will take place on Tuesday, November 2, 11:00am–12:00pm.
  • Nov 4: Assignment 5 was updated this morning. If you downloaded it before then, you should download the new version.
  • Nov 7: There will be a talk by Phil Scott, aimed at undergraduates on LaTeX, the program used to typeset most mathematics (for instance, the notes of this course are written using LaTeX) which is freely available. The talk is at 2:30pm, Thursday, November 11 in KED B005.
  • Dec 18: The exam viewing period will be 1–2pm, Monday, January 3. Since the university is officially closed on that date, the front door to the building may be locked. If this is the case, call the professor's office at 613-562-5800, extension 3513, and he will come down to let you in. Please remember that the professor is leaving January 4th for sabbatical leave and so will not be around to show students their exam after this exam viewing period on January 3rd.
