Grades

Computation of grades

You must obtain a passing grade on the final exam in order to pass the course. If you pass the final exam, then your final course grade will be calculated as follows:

  • Midterms: 45% (3 midterms worth 15% each)
  • Final exam: 55%

Your lowest midterm exam score will be replaced by your score on the final exam if this is to your advantage. Note that this includes missed midterms. That is, if you miss a midterm, that is the one that will be replaced.

Grades will be posted on Blackboard Learn.

Explanation of grades

An explanation of grades in the Faculty of Science can be found here.

What does a grade of E mean? In 1000-level courses in the Faculty of Science, such at MAT 1302, a grade of E is a failing grade but with the opportunity to write a supplemental examination. The mark on the supplemental exam replaces the final exam mark in the computation of a student's final grade. The policy regarding supplemental examinations can be found in Section 9.6 of the academic regulations. Supplemental examinations are scheduled by the Faculty of Science and not by the professor. Therefore, for furthermore information on the supplemental exam, including the date when it will take place, please contact the Faculty of Science.
