Computation of grades

If your grade on the final exam is less than 40%, then your grade in the course is F. If your grade on the final exam is at least 40%, then your grade in the course will be calculated as follows:

  • Assignments: 15%
  • Quizzes: 15%
  • Midterm: 25%
  • Final exam: 45%

In the computation of the assignments portion of your grade, your lowest assignment mark will be dropped. Similarly, in the computation of the quizzes portion of your grade, your lowest quiz mark will be dropped.

Midterm exams cannot be rescheduled. If you miss the midterm exam for a legitimate (properly documented) reason, its weight will be added to the weight of the final exam in the computation of your course grade.

Grades will be posted on Brightspace.

Explanation of grades

An explanation of grades in the Faculty of Science can be found here.

What does a grade of E mean? In 1000-level courses in the Faculty of Science, such at MAT 1362, a grade of E is a failing grade but with the opportunity to write a supplemental examination. The mark on the supplemental exam replaces the final exam mark in the computation of a student's final grade. The policy regarding supplemental examinations can be found in Section 9.6 of the academic regulations. Supplemental examinations are scheduled by the Faculty of Science and not by the professor. Therefore, for furthermore information on the supplemental exam, including the date when it will take place, please contact the Faculty of Science.
